Pediatric speech therapists work with children who demonstrate difficulty understanding and/or using language during daily activities and routines, such as meal time, play time, and bed time.  Speech therapy may include:

Receptive Language: Difficulty understanding what is being said, including following directions and pointing to objects, pictures, and actions.

Expressive Language: Difficulty using words to express needs, desires, thoughts, and ideas (i.e. asking for a drink or telling Mommy when you don’t feel well), which may include naming familiar objects and actions.

Articulation/Speech: Difficulty correctly producing vowel sounds and age-appropriate consonant sounds.

Feeding/Swallowing: Difficulty eating or drinking.

Augmentative/Alternative Communication: Providing those children who do not use words to express themselves with other means of communicating, such as picture exchange programs.
